چکیده

The properties of a quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) superconductor with an open Fermi surface are expected to be unusual in a magnetic field. On the one hand, the quasi-1D structure of the Fermi surface strongly favors the formation of a non-uniform state (Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrell (LOFF) state) in the presence of a magnetic field acting on the electron spins. On the other hand, a magnetic field acting on an open Fermi surface induces a dimensional crossover by confining the electronic wave-functions along the chains of highest conductivity, which results in a divergence of the orbital critical field and in a stabilization at low temperature of a cascade of superconducting phases separated by first order transistions. In this paper, we study the phase diagram as a function of the anisotropy by taking into account on the same footing the paramagnetic and the orbital effects of the field. We discuss in details the experimental situation in the quasi-1D organic conductors of the Bechgaard salts family and argue that they appear as good candidates for the observation of the LOFF state, provided that their anisotropy is large enough. Recent experiments on the organic quasi-1D superconductor (TMTSF)2ClO4 are in agreement with the results obtained in this paper and could be interpreted as a signature of a high-field superconducting phase. We also point out the possibility to observe a LOFF state in some of the recently discovered

Observation of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state in the quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2. Abstract Single crystals of the layered organic type II superconductor, κ-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2 , have been studied in magnetic fields of up to 33 T and at temperatures between 0.5 K and 11 K using a compact differential suscep-tometer. When the magnetic field...

Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state in d-wave superconductors

The Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state can be found in layered dwave superconductors such as high Tc cuprates and κ-(ET)2 salts in a planar magnetic field. We show the superconducting order parameter forms two dimensional crystalline lattice in the FFLO state for d-wave superconductors. Also the quasiparticle density of states and the thermodynamics of FFLO state are constructed. The...

Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov states in one-dimensional spin-polarized ultracold atomic Fermi gases

We present a systematic study of quantum phases in a one-dimensional spin-polarized Fermi gas. Three comparative theoretical methods are used to explore the phase diagram at zero temperature: the mean-field theory with either an order parameter in a single-plane-wave form or a self-consistently determined order parameter using the Bogoliubov–de Gennes equations, as well as the exact Bethe ansat...

In-plane magnetic field anisotropy of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state in layered superconductors.

There is strong experimental evidence of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state formation in layered organic superconductors in a parallel magnetic field. We study theoretically the interplay between the orbital effect and the FFLO modulation in this case and demonstrate that the in-plane critical field anisotropy drastically changes at the transition to the FFLO state. The very pecu...

Interplay of Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov and Vortex states in two-dimensional Superconductors

Clean superconductors with weakly coupled conducting planes have been suggested as promising candidates for observing the Fulde-FerrellLarkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. We consider here a layered superconductor in a magnetic field of arbitrary orientation with respect to the conducting plane. In this case there is competition of Pauli spin-pair-breaking effects, favoring the FFLO state, and orbi...
